Sinopsis
Of all Jin Yong’s intricate series, The Duke of Mount Deer is perhaps the most lively and vivid. It is also one of his most popular, having been made into countless films and TV series, including the famous Stephen Chow movie Royal Tramp. The story revolves around Wai Siu Bo, Emperor Kangxi’s friend, and his seven wives. Apart from Stephen Chow, Jordan Chan, Dicky Cheung, and Wang Xiaoming have all played this tricky layabout named Wai Siu Bo in different adaptations. However, none of these versions have impressed the audience to such a great extent as the 1984 TVB version starring the Infernal Affairs duo Tony Leung and Andy Lau who collaborated for the first time.
Wai Siu Bo (Tony Leung), imprisoned in the Royal Palace for helping the anti-dynastic group called Sky and Earth Society, pretends to be a eunuch and befriends Emperor Kangxi (Andy Lau). He accidentally discovers the Dragon Sect’s conspiracy against the royal family and thus saves the Qing dynasty. Emperor Kangxi rises to throne and puts Wai Siu Bo in a dilemma by asking him to eliminate the Sky and Earth Society… With famous actresses such as Carina Liu, Sandra Ng, Teresa Mo, Kiki Sheung, etc. playing Wai Siu Bo’s seven wives, The Duke of Mount Deer is one of the must-sees for Hong Kong TV fans!
